How do you relate thesse two topics to each other.
Do you think our community sufferes from this?

Fetishization
Hi Annie,
Thank you for your interest in the subject.
What I mean by fetishization (irrational devotion)
of the image of the homeland is that some of us
(members of the immigrant communities) are still
too attached to our past. We have an idealistic
image of of the homeland in our mind which prevents
us from living in the present. We are so proud of
our native culture and history that we can't relate
to the society in which we are living now. Therefore
we stay isolated finding hard to function and progress
in the host country, because we can't relate to it.
This is true (not with everyone of course) especially
with the older generation, but also with some of our
younger immigrants. I hope I answered briefly to
your question. This is a vast topic, if you have
any other questions, I'll be happy to answer.
Best, Soheila
